Boban i Marko Markovic Orkestar

Those that attended the 2 concerts with the Boban i Marko Markovic Orchestra at last years Balkanfest in Evanger couldn’t understand what had hit them!!! Boban, Marko and their band played so that mountains around Evanger vibrated and no one that listened to them could stand still. The king of Balkan brass liked it so much here in Evanger that he decided to come back this year as well. BobanMarko

We have only one piece of advice to you;
Grab the chance to hear the worlds best Balkan brassband

Boban Marković  is from along strain of gipsy musicians and was born in Vladicin in Southern Serbia, right in the middle of the serbian brass culture. It has been said that there isn’t a gypsy in the area who cannot play a brass instrument.
Boban Marković is hailed “The King”and in Serbia he is a national hero.
The Boban Marković Orchestra has been the leading Balkan Brass Band in Serbia over the last 17 years. They are from Vladičin Han, Southern Serbia, which is obviously heard in their music. They have won several of the most important prizes ("Golden Trumpet", "First Trumpet" and "The Best Orchestra") at the Guča trumpet festival, called "Dragačevski Sabor", which has been held every August in Central Serbia's town of Guča, since 1961. Every year "Sabor" gathers 20 of the best bands from all parts of Serbia, as well as some 300,000 people in the audience. Winning there means more jobs for the bands, but also is so prestigious, that no one misses the festival and all the bands play for free.
Boban Marković Orchestra won the "Best Orchestra" prize at 40th "Sabor" in Guča, August 2000. They won the "Best concert 2000" prize for their concert with Lajko Felix. In Guča, at “Dragačevski Sabor 2001” Boban Marković won “The First Trumpet”, what is officially the best prize there and the most wanted among the musicians. It was the first time ever that any musician there got all five marks “10” from all of the jury members. Since winning, he has decided to stop competing.
Boban Marković's son, Marko, has played with the band since 2002. Marko was said to practice ten hours a day before joining with the band. During the two years he spent touring with the band, 17 year old Marko became the main soloist and arranger of the band.

The Boban Marković Orchestra has also managed to gain international recognition by experimenting with other styles such as jazz, latino, funk and pop but always with traditional music as a base. The international press is full of praise and the orchestra today has concerts in Europe and the USA. They have played at festivals and concerts in Portugal, Greece, Switzerland, Belgium, USA, Canada, Romania, Holland, Hungary, GreatBritain, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Poland, Italy, Austria, Monaco, Germany, France, Denmark, Israel, Spain, Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, Czech Republic and many wedding parties everywhere.

Press quotes

“There was a worthy ringer on the bill, The Boban Marković Orchestra from Serbia. It’s songs were pure propulsion, drumbeats as relentless as a machine and horn arrangements that could sound like a silver-toned chorale. A soul horn section or a choreographed brawl. Solo’s sprinted through the melee. It was dance music that was almost brutal in it’s gleeful efficiency”
-The New York Times

"Imgagine the rowdiest, fastest rendition of "Hava Nagila" you've ever heard, zip it up with wild brass playing that would make a New Orleans marching band stop and stare, and throw in percussion so thunderous it shakes a hall, and then you've got an idea why the Orchestra gets a crowd into a frenzy."
-The Boston Herald

Farmers Market

2009 winner of the open class in the Norwegian Grammy Awards (Spelemannsprisen) are coming to the Balkan festival in Evanger! We can promise you intense Balkan music.  farmersmarket

FARMERS MARKET was started in Trondheim during the fall of 1991.The members were all students of the Jazz Department at the Conservatory of Trondheim. What started out as a free-jazz quintet, soon found itself heading in a completely different direction; Bulgarian folk-music. This music, with its odd meters, oriental scales and improvisational possibilities, has become one of the main ingredients of  "The Farmers Music". The music is a mixture of Bulgarian folk music, jazz standards, popular music and lots of humour.

FARMERS MARKET has become one of Norway's most popular live bands, playing at all kinds of venues and festivals: jazz, folk and rock. FARMERS MARKET released their first CD, "Speed/Balkan/Boogie", in February 1995. This was a live recording from Molde International Jazzfestival 1994.

Farmers Market play a mixture of jazz, Bulgarian folk, bluegrass, pop, and rock. The band began performing at various festivals, including Norway's Molde International Jazz Festival in 1994, from which the debut live album Speed/Balkan/Boogie was culled a year later. The band's sophomore effort, Music from the Hybrides, followed in 1997.

Discography: "Speed/Balkan/Boogie" (1995), “Music from the Hybrides” (1997), “Farmers Market” (2000) and “Surfin’ USSR” I 2008.
Every CD has received glorious critics nationally and internationally. The band has worked with jazz icon Michael Brecker, along with many musicians from Bulgaria and former Jugoslavia. They have performed in many big Norwegian music festivals and have also played at large international jazz festivals such as the North Sea Jazzfestival (Amsterdam 2004) and Berliner Festspiele I 2005.
